C.S. Lewis’s Warning to the Modern World

Podcast Ep. 22 – The Abolition of Man

Hello friends,

Episode 22 of the podcast is now live! Jeremy is joined by our very own Sean Berube for a discussion on The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis.

The key question is this: if we teach people that right and wrong are merely personal opinions, how can we expect them to become good people?

More fundamentally, perhaps: can a civilization survive the destruction of its belief in objective truth and goodness?

To answer these, the discussion dives into Lewis’s critique of modern education and how it has created “men without chests.” Lewis’s short but great work on this matter examines the dangers of moral relativism and why the true purpose of education is the cultivation of virtue.

The proper role of education, says Lewis, is not merely to make us more knowledgeable, but to teach us to love what is good and hate what is evil.

Enjoy!
