Just listened to a sermon on humility. It is basically the answer to the question, who will you serve?

This introduction, which is very well written as usual, is very timely.

Thank you. I read the Introduction to the book, and am grateful the discussion starts here, not in some of the earlier chapters.

Thank you. I needed this context to help me understand why Augustine is writing about these things. It is like a Sophie’s World for the people of Rome, introducing them to basic concepts of Christian theology.

I’ve stumbled upon you a week late, but immediately went out and bought the book. In a time where our own Rome is surely crumpling, and people invoke the name of God while clearly living for themselves, this choice seems so very timely. I am less a monotheist than a pantheist (all paths v one path), but the legacy of Christian Philosophy as it has shaped western reality has always been one of my favorite subjects. Looking forward to these discussions of what it means to be devoted to God (humanity, community, the collective).
