I have always found reading philosophy to be hard and dense. I tried to, especially when I was younger and reading more of what I thought i should read as opposed to what I wanted to. But Aristotle, especially in small doses, has always spoken to me. Reading this i am reminded that concepts I read and use all the time originated with him. "Begin with the end in mind" I use all the time, but credit it to Steven Covey's seven habits work. Moderation is credited to Buddhist thought. And SO many principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are just repackaged Aristotle.
Hello! I am about to publish my debut novel, Open and Shut, and I would love your thoughts! Open and Shut follows detective Calvin Russell as he tries to solve the murder of Sylvia Cobb. Evidence points squarely at her husband, Brian. The police give Calvin 72 hours before charging Brian with the murder. Brian maintains his innocence, but he is a struggling alcoholic with no memory of the night and no neighbors willing to vouch for him. As Calvin questions the neighbors, secrets and tensions begin to surface. Calvin becomes less certain of the truth himself as his own traumatic past starts to tangle with the case. It was good to read Nicomachean Ethics again (this time via audiobook), even if Aristotle is tough to parse sometimes.

Loved this. We need Aristotle and these practical lessons from him (grounded in deep thought, as opposed to shallow cliches) now more than ever.
