Our New Podcast!

Ep 1: Plutarch's Parallel Lives

Hello friends,

An exciting update…

We have started a brand new podcast!

We started this book club with the simple goal of studying the great texts of Western civilization, together. On top of our regular book club sessions, we’ve always wanted to bring long-form discussions to a wider audience.

And so, hosted by our good friend, Jeremy Ryan Slate, the Athenaeum Podcast is a completely free and open discussion on the great texts, one book at a time.

First up, we’re discussing Plutarch’s Parallel Lives, perhaps the best surviving account of the lives and motivations of antiquity’s world-shaking figures. Jeremy is joined by writer and academic Alex Petkas to discuss Plutarch’s fascinating account of Pericles.

Watch now for free on Substack!

Over the next few weeks, we have an INCREDIBLE line-up of guest writers, thinkers, and academics coming on the show. Stay tuned.

We do what we do because we’re passionate about spreading the wisdom and virtues of the Western canon as widely as possible — but we need your help!

If you want to support our efforts, please take out a paid subscription on Substack. It makes a huge difference to the time and resources we can dedicate to this project. Paid members also get:

  • Live community book discussions (bi-weekly)

  • Deep-dive essays to guide you through the book we’re reading

  • The full archive of book reviews + our 100 great texts reading list

We’re back for our final Count of Monte Cristo discussion on October 14th, at 12pm ET. Bring your thoughts, questions, and favorite passages!

Sign up below to attend. All paid members can join the live discussion up on stage…

Note: paid subscribers via Substack will automatically receive an access link for the live calls.
